Reiki
A gentle energy treatment to help you pause, reset and reconnect
Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy practice based on the understanding that life force energy flows through and around us.
Everything that is alive has energy. We are not just physical bodies; we have an energetic system too.
When I practise Reiki, I use myself as a channel for this universal life force energy, allowing it to flow through the top of my head and out through my hands, into the treatment.
I don't have to direct it.
You don't have to direct it.
There is no need to tell me where you think you need it.
I simply allow the Reiki to flow and work intuitively with what I experience during your treatment.
For me, Reiki is about balance — bringing attention to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves and supporting the flow of energy through the body, chakras and aura.
And sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is simply stop.
The Reiki Principles
The Reiki principles are at the heart of Reiki for me.
They aren't rules or something you have to be perfect at. They are gentle reminders about how we choose to live — and how we can bring ourselves back to the present moment.
Just for today, I will not anger.
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
It is the “just for today” that I love most.
Because tomorrow hasn't happened yet.
Yesterday has already happened.
All we actually have is today.
And today, we can choose again.
These principles are something I try to live by myself. They are part of my Reiki practice, but they are also part of who I am.
What happens during Reiki?
Your Reiki treatment takes place with you fully clothed, lying comfortably on the treatment bed.
I work through a series of hand positions, placing my hands gently on the body or holding them just above you.
There is nothing you need to achieve.
You don't need to meditate.
You don't need to clear your mind.
You don't need to breathe in a particular way.
You simply allow yourself to be there.
As I work, I may experience sensations or changes in the energy around you.
Every treatment is different because every person is different, and every persons bagage is different.
What might I feel?
There is no standard Reiki experience.
You might feel:
-
warmth or coolness
-
tingling, pulsing or gentle movement
-
energy moving through or around your body
-
heaviness or lightness
-
a feeling of floating or sinking
-
deep relaxation or sleepiness
-
emotions rising and passing
-
colours, shapes or patterns with your eyes closed
-
a sense of peace or spaciousness
-
or absolutely nothing you can put your finger on
You might have a very profound experience.
Or you might simply have a really lovely rest.
Both are completely okay.
You don't have to feel anything for Reiki to be worthwhile.
You don't have to believe
This is something I particularly want people to know.
You don't have to believe in Reiki.
You don't have to consider yourself spiritual.
You don't need to align yourself with any particular belief system.
And Reiki isn't a religion.
You can be curious.
You can be open-minded, and you can be a little sat on the fence.
Who is Reiki for?
Reiki is for anyone who feels drawn to experiencing it.
You might be:
-
feeling overwhelmed or mentally busy
-
finding it difficult to switch off
-
going through a period of change
-
carrying emotional weight
-
feeling disconnected from yourself
-
curious about energy work
-
looking for a gentle form of relaxation
-
or simply thinking, “I could really do with some time for me.”
You don't need a reason.
Sometimes wanting to feel a little more like yourself is reason enough.
How many treatments might I need?
There is no set number of Reiki treatments.
You can have Reiki as a one-off treatment whenever you feel you need some time to pause and receive.
If you're completely new to Reiki and want to explore how it feels and what you notice over time, I generally recommend experiencing at least three treatments.
For deeper emotional work, such as supporting yourself through grief or a significant period of emotional change, I would usually recommend allowing more time and considering a minimum of six treatments.
Your experience may change from one treatment to the next, and that's perfectly normal.
Reiki at InSPArations
Reiki can be enjoyed as a standalone treatment, or it can become part of a more intuitive treatment tailored around you.
It is one of the therapies I may include within my Holistic Treatment, alongside reflexology, auricular acupuncture, ear seeds, chakra-balancing tuning forks, essential oils and guided meditation.
It also forms part of my InSPArational Signature Reset, and facials.
This is where Reiki sits beautifully within my wider Skin to Within approach.
Because looking after yourself isn't just about what you see in the mirror.
It's about how you feel within yourself, too.
Sometimes you don't need to do more.
Sometimes you simply need to stop.
To breathe.
To receive.
And to come back to yourself.
Just for today.
